Mala Scena is one of the leading Croatian theatres for children and young people, based on number of performances as well as the number of awards which our plays have won domestically and abroad.

Mission

It is our mission to offer children of all ages, from 0 to 15 years, art of theatre as an everyday part of their growing up. We would like to establish communication and lead a dialog with our young audience about the current and everyday topics which they are interested in and which occupy their attention. We would like to help them understand the world which surrounds them, encourage them and inspire them to confront it boldly. It is our responsibility when on stage to question and investigate children's everyday lives and send them messages of encouragement and hope. It is our mission to bring theatre for young audience to an equal level with "theatre for grown ups", and we can to this by constant pursue of excellence and strict art criteria of our own work. It is our mission to affirm indigenous creation of Croatia authors, but also to promote greatest accomplishments of world's creation for the children and young people. It is our mission to incorporate art of theatre into programs of educational institutions on all levels, to educate the educators, audience and artists. It is our mission to use theatre as means to initiate communication between generations, especially within families, to improve understanding among people and to foster overcoming of problems and misunderstandings that come as part of growing up.

Vision

We envision Mala Scena in the future to be one of the European theatre centers from which new ideas and way of thinking about art of theatre for young people are developed, and which promotes new forms in accordance with world's knowledge and contemporary trends. That way, Croatian indigenous creation will be placed in a European context and will lead other Croatian theatres for children in that direction. This goal is possible to accomplish only by uncompromising dedication for theater creation for children. Vision of Mala Scena in the future is a picture of contemporary theatre for children as an artistic, not a educational institution, with a program that is not only means by which schools try to realize their educational lessons or which is addition to classes, but is a theatre that acts independently from school programs and needs, and contributes to education of children by indigenous artistic creation. It is a theatre that raises children by means of art, and does not educates them for art, a theatre to which children are audience of today, and not an audience of tomorrow and finally, a theatre that is an equal part, and not an additional means of upbringing and education. Hiring skilled and educated young people who can live up to these demands for excellence is a strategic commitment of the theatre. Young artists of all profiles, who will not only mature in Mala Scena Theatre, but will also run the theatre in the future, is a vision as well as a realistic goal.
